At the end of this course, successful participants will be able to describe principles of design, analysis, and management of asphalt pavements. Mike Mamlouk, Ph.D., P.E., F.ASCE

Dr. Mike Mamlouk is a Professor of the Civil, Environmental and Sustainable Engineering Program at Arizona State University. He has over 35 years of research and teaching experience in the field of pavement design and materials engineering. Prior to joining ASU, he worked at the State University of New York at Buffalo for 5 years. He received his Ph.D. degree from Purdue University in 1979. His main areas of expertise include pavement design, pavement evaluation and maintenance, and material characterization. He has directed many research projects on pavement evaluation, materials testing, maintenance and nondestructive testing. In particular, Dr. Mamlouk participated in the original SHRP research from 1989 to 1993. He successfully completed a multi-year research contract as the Principal Investigator on Pavement Preventive Maintenance supported by the FHWA. He recently completed a major NCHRP research project dealing with validating the endurance limit for asphalt pavements. He was also the PI of a research project funded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Waterways Experiment Station in the area of dynamic analysis of pavements. Dr. Mamlouk played a major role in introducing the subject of dynamic analysis as a viable method for pavement evaluation. He has published numerous technical papers and is actively involved in professional societies such as ASCE, AAPT, TRB and ASTM. He is the main author of the “Materials for Civil and Construction Engineers” textbook, published by Prentice Hall, which is being used by more than 150 civil engineering programs around the world. He worked as a consultant and expert witness to many highway agencies and local industry.  He is a professional engineer in the state of Arizona and a fellow of ASCE.
